Rocket Lab (RKLB) Stock News: Neutron First Launch Moves to 2027

Rocket Lab said on October 14 that the first launch of its Neutron rocket is now expected in 2027. The company's update follows an August warning that the window for a 2026 debut was narrowing.
What caused the slip
Inspections identified voids, or air pockets, in a carbon-composite dome on the vehicle. Rocket Lab says the problem has been corrected, but the rework pushes the inaugural flight out of the fourth quarter of 2026. Earlier in the year a first-stage tank ruptured during a water-loading test, which had already moved the target from mid-2026 to late 2026.
Shares of RKLB fell after the announcement, a decline of close to 10% on the day according to market coverage.
How to size the effect
Neutron was scheduled to fly once in its first year of service, so a one-year slip removes roughly one launch from the near-term plan rather than a backlog of flights. The company's Electron rocket and its space-systems business, which supply most current revenue, are not affected by the dome issue.
The longer-term question is competitive. Neutron is Rocket Lab's entry into medium-lift launches, where SpaceX is the dominant provider, and each delay extends the period in which Rocket Lab cannot bid for those payloads with its own vehicle. Readers should check the next quarterly report for any change to development spending or guidance, which the update did not quantify in the coverage available.
