How Moderation Works

Last updated July 10, 2026

What This Page Is

TickerPosts is a community for stock discussion, and this page explains, in plain English, how we keep that discussion useful and safe. It sits alongside the community guidelines, which list what is and is not allowed, and the FAQ. The short version: most of the work happens quietly, and it is designed to guide good-faith posters rather than get in their way.

Gentle Nudges Before You Post

When you write a post, the composer may show a calm notice before you submit. It does this when your wording resembles a classic promotional phrase, when a big factual claim has no source link attached, or when the stock you are discussing trades very lightly. These notices are advice, not a block: you can still post as written. They exist because the same patterns show up again and again in low-quality and manipulative posts, and a quiet reminder is often enough to keep the discussion honest.

Posts We Stop Automatically

A small number of posts are stopped the moment you try to submit them, because they are almost never anything but spam or abuse. This covers things like empty or one-word posts, posts that are nothing but a link, posts stuffed with far more links, tags, or symbols than a real comment would use, and posts that hide invisible characters to dodge filters. If a post is stopped, you will see a short explanation so you can fix it and try again. We describe these only in general terms on purpose, so the checks stay effective.

Posting Limits

To keep any single account from flooding the site, there are limits on how quickly and how often you can post, comment, vote, and report. Brand-new accounts are held to gentler limits than long-standing ones, which slows down throwaway accounts created to run a campaign while barely affecting a normal member. If you reach a limit, you are simply asked to wait a short while before trying again.

What Gets Removed

Posts that break the community guidelines are removed when they are found or reported. That includes coordinated promotion, fake screenshots, impersonation, threats, harassment, doxxing, and claims of guaranteed returns or inside information. Posts about penny stocks, micro-caps, and recently reverse-split tickers are held to a stricter standard, because regulators have repeatedly flagged those as the most common targets for manipulation. Depending on severity, a violation can lead to a removed post, a temporary limit, a suspension, or a permanent ban.

How To Report A Post

Every post has a report control. Reporting sends the post and its surrounding context to a moderation queue, which is faster and more useful than describing a post from memory. Reporting in good faith is welcome even when you turn out to be wrong; using the report button to silence opinions you simply disagree with is not.

If You Think We Got It Wrong

Moderation is not perfect. If you believe a post was removed or a limit was applied in error, report any other comment on the same thread and use the details field to explain, and a moderator will take another look.

Changes Over Time

We refine these systems over time. Notable changes appear in the changelog linked from the footer of every page. You can also read more about how the site works on How It Works, and the limits of what a discussion site can promise in the disclaimer.
