L3Harris Technologies said on October 13 that it has started delivering VAMPIRE counter-drone systems to the U.S. Army, according to the company’s release. The deliveries follow a $106 million order the Army placed in June for urgent defense against hostile drones, announced at the time on the company’s investor site.

What VAMPIRE is

The system is a kit that mounts on vehicles and fires laser-guided rockets at small drones. L3Harris says military forces have used it extensively in European combat operations, logging more than 350,000 operational hours since 2023. The company opened a dedicated VAMPIRE production facility in Huntsville, Alabama, earlier this year, which it credits for the quick turnaround from order to delivery.

What the release does not say

It gives no unit count, no delivery schedule for the rest of the order, and no follow-on contract. The details rest on the company’s own account; no independent reporting on the October deliveries was found.

What to compare next

For readers following LHX, a $106 million order is small against annual revenue above $20 billion. The relevance is that counter-drone equipment is one of the fastest-growing defense categories, and a demonstrated two-month delivery cycle positions the company for larger follow-on buys if the Army expands the program.
