Equifax (EFX) Stock News: Duplicate Credit Reporting Settlement Awaits Final Approval

Equifax Information Services agreed to settle a class action alleging it reported the same collection account more than once on certain consumer reports, according to OpenClassActions. The case is Bradberry v. Equifax Information Services (No. 1:22-cv-04754, Northern District of Georgia), before Judge Michael L. Brown.
The claim
The named plaintiff alleged the duplicate reporting violated section 1681e(b) of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which requires reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy. Equifax denies the allegations, and the court has not decided who is right.
Who is covered and what they get
Class members are the 37,651 people Equifax identified as having been sent a duplicate-reporting letter in August and September 2022. Every member automatically receives six months of credit monitoring; members who attested they were harmed could claim cash expected up to $600 from a $2.2 million fund. The claim deadline was September 1, 2026. The final approval hearing was set for October 6, and no ruling had been posted as of October 20.
Why it matters for the stock
For readers following EFX, the dollar amount is trivial. The relevance is that accuracy suits under the FCRA are a recurring cost of the credit-bureau business model, and this one is small precisely because the class was defined by Equifax’s own notice letters, which capped its size.
