Two sell-side firms reduced their Boeing price targets in the days before the company’s third-quarter report, scheduled for October 27, according to broker research summaries compiled by MarketScreener and reports of the notes.

The moves

Bernstein lowered its target to $278 from $298 on October 12 and kept an Outperform rating. As reported, the firm pointed to continuing labor issues, certification delays and production-process challenges, and said it lacked clear visibility on free cash flow. TD Cowen trimmed its target to $240 from $250 the prior week and kept a Buy rating.

What was not verified

A separate report of an RBC target of $235 could not be confirmed against the firm’s published history, so it is not included here.

Why it matters for the stock

For readers following BA, both cuts leave the firms positive on the shares while lowering the bar, which is a common pattern before a report where cash flow is the open question. Analysts estimate third-quarter revenue near $25 billion with a loss close to break-even. The number that will settle the debate is Boeing’s own cash flow and 737 delivery count on October 27.
