Tesla released its third-quarter 2026 update after the close on October 21. The document filed with the SEC shows total revenue of $28.05 billion, essentially unchanged from $28.10 billion a year earlier.

The income statement

Automotive revenue was $20.56 billion versus $21.21 billion. Energy generation and storage revenue fell to $2.88 billion from $3.42 billion, while services and other rose to $4.61 billion. Gross profit improved to $5.49 billion from $5.05 billion, but operating expenses climbed to $4.78 billion from $3.43 billion, so GAAP operating income fell to $718 million from $1.62 billion, a 56% decline, and operating margin dropped about 320 basis points. GAAP net income was $787 million, or $0.22 per diluted share, versus $1.37 billion and $0.39. Non-GAAP net income was $1.70 billion, or $0.48 per share, little changed from $0.50.

Cash and capital spending

Operating cash flow was $6.26 billion, matching a year earlier. Capital expenditures were $4.73 billion, more than double the $2.25 billion of the prior-year quarter, leaving free cash flow of $1.53 billion versus $3.99 billion. Cash and investments rose to $45.4 billion.

Operations

Production was 464,391 vehicles, up 4%, and deliveries 486,532, down 2%. Active FSD subscriptions grew to 1.74 million from 1.04 million a year earlier. Energy storage deployments were 13.7 gigawatt-hours. The company said Cybercab robotaxi rides began in Austin on September 3, that unsupervised robotaxi miles grew eightfold quarter over quarter, that it ended the quarter with its largest passenger-vehicle backlog in four years, and that battery availability remained the limit on volume. It delivered its ten millionth vehicle and began Tesla Semi production in Nevada and Optimus production in Fremont.

Outlook

Tesla gives no numerical guidance. It says deliveries will depend on demand, supply readiness and allocation decisions between customer sales and its own fleet, and that it expects hardware profits to be joined over time by software and fleet-based profits.

What to compare next

For readers following TSLA, the quarter pairs flat revenue with much higher spending on AI compute, robotics and energy capacity, which is why operating profit fell while cash flow held. The subscription count is the clearest recurring-revenue signal in the report; whether it keeps compounding at this pace is the number to track.
