Iovance Stock Falls 35% as Investors Weigh Updated Lung-Cancer Data

Iovance Biotherapeutics (NASDAQ: IOVA) shares fell about 35% on Thursday, October 29, as investors digested updated data for lifileucel, the company's tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte therapy being studied in previously treated non-squamous metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer. The full update added detail to results that Iovance had described as positive the previous evening, according to historical share-price data.
The overall response rate was little changed
In the updated analysis, 17 of 69 patients responded, for an objective response rate of 24.6%. That was consistent with the previously reported 25.6% rate among 39 patients, according to Iovance's release.
The company also reported a higher response rate in a subgroup of 22 patients defined by KRAS wild-type status, HER2 wild-type status and a history of smoking. Thirteen patients in that subgroup responded, for a 59.1% rate. Iovance said the subgroup was identified retrospectively, so the result is a reason for further study rather than proof that the same response rate will hold in a prospectively selected group.
Iovance plans a prospective test
The company plans to begin enrollment in November in POSITILITY, a biomarker-enriched cohort within the ongoing Phase 2 program. Iovance said the study is designed with registrational intent and that the broader cohorts support a planned supplemental biologics license application in 2027. Any filing and regulatory outcome remain subject to future data and FDA feedback.
The share-price decline followed a sharp reversal from the initial after-hours reaction to the first announcement. The overall response rate was consistent with the prior readout, while the new subgroup analysis was retrospective; the day's move alone does not reveal how investors weighed each element.
