ImmunityBio (IBRX) Stock News: FDA Expands Anktiva Approval to All BCG-Unresponsive Bladder Cancer

ImmunityBio said on October 14 that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has expanded the approved indication for Anktiva in combination with BCG to include patients with BCG-unresponsive non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer with papillary-only tumors, according to the company’s announcement.
What changed
The April 2024 approval covered BCG-unresponsive disease with carcinoma in situ, with or without papillary tumors. The new label reads simply that Anktiva plus BCG is indicated for adults with BCG-unresponsive non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, which the company says is the first FDA approval to include papillary-only disease. ImmunityBio states that papillary disease represents about 85% of the patient population, which is why the expansion matters commercially.
The evidence cited
The company says the expansion was based on the FDA’s review of available information including the earlier QUILT-3.032 trial, in which 62% of 77 patients with carcinoma in situ achieved a complete response, with 58% of responders maintaining it for at least 12 months. The prescribing information keeps a warning that delaying removal of the bladder can lead to metastatic disease.
What to compare next
For readers following IBRX, a label that covers the whole BCG-unresponsive population removes a commercial constraint, but revenue depends on physicians adopting the drug and on reimbursement. The next quarterly report will give the first indication of prescription growth after the change. Separately, the company has said it is preparing a filing for BCG-naive patients; that timing is not addressed in this announcement.
