Williams Trading downgraded Birkenstock to Sell from Hold on October 16 and reduced its price target to $27 from $39, according to reports of the note. It is the firm’s second cut in three months: it had moved the stock to Hold from Buy in August with a $44 target, after calling an earlier dip a buying opportunity.

The reported reasoning

The firm now doubts Birkenstock can reach its fiscal 2028 financial targets. It cites slowing sell-through rates in the Americas and, in Europe, a disconnect between what the company ships to retailers and what those retailers sell, most evident at the online retailer Zalando. The underlying diagnosis, as reported, is a lack of compelling new product to sustain demand at premium prices.

Other views

Raymond James cut its target to $42 the same week but kept an Outperform rating. Earlier in the year William Blair moved to Market Perform and Seaport Research to Neutral, so the Street’s stance has been drifting lower since the shares traded above $53.

Why it matters for the stock

For readers following BIRK, the sell-in versus sell-through point is testable: if retailers are holding more inventory than they are selling, the next quarter’s wholesale orders will slow. That is the figure to check in the company’s fiscal fourth-quarter report.
